Working to change the world…one word at a time!Communication aficionado who believes we can all transform the world around us by concisely communicating our beliefs, ideas, and emotions, and then converting them into action. Nponano Maikori was born in Kaduna, Nigeria to a father who was a special needs educator for 46 years and a mother who was a nurse for 40 years. The family moved to the United States when she was a little over one year old. She studied journalism and broadcasting at Oklahoma State University in hopes of one day becoming a sportscaster, but later found a calling in communications. During her more than 20-year career, Maikori has had comprehensive success creating metrics-driven internal and external communications and strategies for companies spanning a wide range of industries. She has used her innate ability to connect with people and build strong relationships as tools to foster and create an atmosphere of inclusiveness in the organizations she has worked in. In her most recent role as the Senior Manager, Internal Communications at Glassdoor, Maikori was brought in to develop the 15-year tech company’s first internal and executive communications strategy. Prior to that, she built internal communications strategies at Understood, a nonprofit focused on the neurodiverse, and Local Wisdom, a digital agency that provided support and developed communications strategies for national brands. Outside of work, Maikori has been involved in several community programs and initiatives. She has been a Peer Mentor for Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, an active member of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ), and was the Communication Chair for the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas. In her spare time, you can find her brushing up on recipes from her native Nigeria, writing short stories, binge-watching 80’s movies, or talking all things sports.
