We'll discuss how to conceive and tell stories for both print and digital mediums. Session participants will come way with tips on interviewing and reporting to bring topics to life, and they'll learn ways to craft leads, write more clearly, use quotes and structure stories to help entice readers. Duke University uses storytelling to create personal connections with its 36,000 employees. We'll look at some examples from Duke's award-winning print and online publication, Working@Duke.

Presenter bio: 

Leanora Minai is communications director for Duke University's Office of Communication Services and editor of the employee print publication Working@Duke and Working@Duke on Duke Today, the daily online news site at Duke University in Durham, N.C. Prior to joining Duke, Leanora was a reporter for the St. Petersburg Times, now the Tampa Bay Times. Leanora is always looking for a good story that can make a difference and effect positive change. She received a certificate in documentary arts from Duke's Center for Documentary Studies after producing a short film about mothers who support each other through grief after losing a child to murder.
